La Spezia stretches along a string of land wrapped up between its gorgeous sea and its outstanding mountains, that is why many districts stand on the hillside. Precisely because of the conformation of the Gulf of La Spezia, which is well sheltered and therefore perfectly equipped to fight sea storms and enemies attacks, the town itself has been transformed into a military harbour. Infact one of the biggest Navy's arsenal has been built here, in the heart of La Spezia.
La Spezia hosts several museums such as: the Archaeological Museum inside Saint George's Castle, the Amedeo Lia Civic Museum, the Sigillo's Museum, the Diocesiano Museum, CAMEC (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art), the Naval Engineering Museum, the National Transports Museum, the Sports Museum just to name some.
